Cal Poly Wine Festival, April 28th, 2007

The locale is spectacular; the historic Santa Margarita Ranch and it was probably the biggest turnout ever for this event. Lots of great wines from San Luis Obispo County, Napa-Sonoma and yes, even Lodi.
You can check the site for info on this great wine event that is put on by a Poly student organization called Vines to Wines and proceeds benefit Cal Poly's Wine and Viticulture Program.

We'll have some interviews with wine makers and attendees uploaded to the podcast section of our website sometime in the upcoming week.

I Think I Need Glasses!

As the massive shift (tidal wave) of the 21-35 year olds turning from beer and cocktails continues to sweep the nation, leaving in it's path, a rash of new wine tasting bars, there are other impacts coming to light.

Such as new approaches to wine glass designs.

Wine for two and a classic Sideways inspired,
"To hell with a taste, pour me a glass of wine!

From Surfin' Safari to Sippin' Safari

Ahhh, we're always coming up with fun stuff to do in California. Our friends at Cass Winery in Paso Robles are offering up a really unique event; Safari Weekend.

On Friday & Saturday, May 18th and 19th, for those that dare…. they will be having a full weekend of fun, food and sun at the winery.

Team Cass will provide all the creature comforts of home…. ummm, almost.

The camping arrangements include a delectable Safari dinner, two hearty breakfasts, and a Safari Survivor Dinner on Saturday.

The camp site is in the middle of the vineayard under a giant oak tree and hot showers are provided, M*A*S*H style, on the crush pad (or is that "crash pad") of the winery.

The tents are tall enough that you can stand uop in them and the beds are comprised of double high air mattresses with comforters, so leave your sleeping bags at home. Pith helmets optional.

The classic Chrysler limo pictured above is the Offical Ground Transportation of Cass Winery. For more information and tickets, please eMail Erin at

Life Beyond the Spork

The Chork is an eating utensil that combines the power of a fork with the power of chopsticks. Throw in the power of a tiger and you've got yourselves the deadliest utensil known to man.
Sushi, anyone?

Not the Ghost of Mama Cass, but...

Kathy and I just came back from a luncheon "finishing party" at the newly refurbished Cass House in Cayucos.

Wow! The finale of a 14 year rehab project was celebrated today with the addition of the last two copper, very pointy, finials added to the roof of this house built in 1867 by Captain James Cass, legendary steam ship captain, entrepeneur that nearly single handedly started up commerce in Cayucos, California in the late 1800's.

There's a lot of history is this old house and there's lots of good deli food being made next store in the eight month old "Small Market." The same folks that will be serving breakfast, lunch and California tea (afternoon wine), in the Cass House Restaurant which is open to the public.

Stalking The Perfect Bloody Mary Straw

I know, I know. It's a show about wine and food, but I mentioned this on the air a couple of weeks ago and it has, evidently, generated quite a bit of interest among the devotees of the Bloody Mary.
So here's a photo and the story from Restaurant Business Magazine.
